What Makes Good Firewood?

Good firewood is noted for its dry, robust composition. While you can usually feel good quality firewood just by touching it, there are several factors one should consider when selecting firewood.

  • Moisture content
  • Wood species
  • Size and shape
  • Well-seasoned
  • Stored effectively

Low moisture is integral to quality firewood. Many would argue that a moisture content of less than 20% is the best for strong fire. Green or wet wood typically will not burn nearly as efficiently, and it will often produce more smoke. Additionally, the species of wood should be considered for their energy content – this is more often than not found with hardwood trees.

How Does A1 Sure Services Sell Their Firewood?

A1 Sure Services offers cubes of firewood at $115/cube (excl delivery fee). We are able to deliver your firewood to several locations across Auckland. Please see the delivery charges below for your specific location:

> North Shore, Whangaparaoa, Orewa, Rodney District and surrounding areas – $30

> West, East, South and Central Auckland – $60

We have several small delivery trucks that can take a maximum of 6 cubes at a time. Our trucks can access all sorts of driveways – steep, narrow, tight access, etc. The wood comes loose on the back of our tipper truck.  The tray slides up, and the wood comes out into a pile ready for you to put away.

Simply fill out our contact form with your name, address, phone number, how many cubes you would like to order and where you would like the wood dropped on your property, and we will be in touch either via email or phone to advise you when your delivery is scheduled in.

How Can I Store My Firewood Effectively?

Preparing for winter involves mastering the art of firewood storage. To ensure the wood stays in top-notch condition before the cold season, make sure to be efficient with your firewood storage. It’s crucial to keep the firewood in a dry location, but it’s often overlooked that proper airflow is also necessary to maintain its dryness – it’s more than just stacking the wood on top of each other.

A suitable covering is also essential to keep moisture at bay. However, relying on tarps for this purpose may still result in condensation forming on the underside of the cover. Therefore, it’s recommended to stack the firewood on pellets if possible, as it promotes better airflow, helping to counteract any condensation.
