A1 SURE SERVICES – AUCKLAND ARBORISTS WITH 10+ YEARS EXPERIENCE IN TREE TRIMMING AND TREE REMOVAL NORTH SHORE/AUCKLAND WIDE!

Autumn can be a delicate time for your trees. The weather is getting colder and their leaves will die off, leaving you a nice big mess that needs to be cleaned up. It’s also a time where disease can spread easily amongst trees if you don’t look after them properly. While we would recommend contacting professional arborists for advice and help, here are a few things you can do to ensure the health and happiness of your trees.

Rake Your Leaves

This is super important for keeping your trees healthy. Raking the leaves helps to prevent rot from setting in around the trunks and reduces the spread of disease to your trees. We recommend clearing a patch on the lawn and laying down a big tarp then raking all of the leaves onto said tarp. This makes transporting the leaves much easier and prevents moisture and fungi from building up. Position the tarp downhill and/or downwind from you to prevent the leaves from blowing or falling back towards you. Once you have raked the leaves, test the weight of the tarp to ensure you can carry it. If you aren’t able to, get someone to help or take some of the leaves off. Better to make two trips than do your back in!

Prune Your Trees

Pruning and trimming your trees is important, but it’s vital you do it at the right time. The best time is when the tree has shed all or most of its leaves and is fully dormant – around late April/May is ideal. Pruning too soon can mean the wounds take longer to heal or don’t heal properly, attracting pests, disease and fungi which can wreak havoc on your trees and garden. If you are unsure or inexperienced, feel free to call A1 Sure Services for any advice. We have expert tree care specialists who can provide high-quality tree trimming, Auckland wide!

Apply Mulch to the Base of Your Trees

It is highly recommended to mulch your garden in Autumn as opposed to Spring when many people like to do it. Applying the mulch in Autumn seals in moisture and warmth for the cold winter months ahead. Doing it in Spring can actually prevent warmth and moisture from reaching the roots and result in slower growth. Apply the mulch around the base of the tree, leaving an inch or two around the truck clear. Putting the mulch against the truck can encourage rot and fungal growth.

With these three tips, keeping your trees healthy and ready for the winter months should be a breeze!
